By Lisa Kashinsky, Eagle Tribune | “It's beautiful to see a smile,” when someone receives a blanket “made with love” like Moody's, Velez said.

The senior center on Haverhill Street has been serving as a hub for donations in the days and weeks following the explosions and fires that rocked the Valley.

Mayor Daniel Rivera tapped Velez and the senior center staff to check up on those affected by the gas disaster. Velez said they completed an initial 2,200 wellness calls and are following up with residents, particularly the elderly, every couple of weeks. She expects those checks to continue long after the targeted gas restoration date of Nov. 19.
